ANY RELIGION!! So a member of my family said “I want god to take me” What is your personal thought on this?
So, there is a member of my family who is very sick. He has Mesothelioma and can not take medicine to treat it (long story). He is constantly in pain and is suffering. He mentioned to my great grandmother a couple days ago… "I want god to take me, but he obviously doesn’t want me…I’m still here" The thing is, my family is really religious (aside from my mother, father, and I) And his family is REALLY religious.
So, do you think it is wrong that he is asking "god" to take him, with him being a hard core Christian? Is it wrong that he wishes to be dead and leave his family behind? Would he like, go to "hell" or somthing for wishing that on himself? What is your personal view on this? I would like anyone of any religion to answer, I want to see what your personal belief and oppinion is..
Thanks!

I had an uncle in a very similar situation, but much less accepting of the fact he was still around suffering. He would shout, "God please take me! Please take me, God!" and he was in a lot of pain when he wasn’t completely doped up.
This member of your family may have every reason to believe that what time he has left will be of suffering, and that he will be a burden rather than a use to do God’s work or any other. Likely, he doesn’t see what purpose there is for him to continue constant suffering when he is of no use to God or anyone.
Seems like a pretty good time for God to take someone to me.
But he also believes that if God wanted him now, He’d have taken him. See the conflict he’s got going? He believe God wants him to be here, but can’t see for what good.
My advice is to make him feel he still has some usefulness. Too you, namely. He can talk, sounds like his mind is good, but probably immobile. Maybe ask him about his past, what the most important lessons in his life have been, funny things that happened, other family and such.

I’m in pain all the time and I understand this Cat, suffering just wears ya down after a while. I’m cool with what he said.

You should have taken him to the psych ward immediately

For a Christian this earth is the only hell they will ever see.
For a non-believer this life is the only heaven they will ever see.
Paul said he could not wait to be in heaven with Christ.
Philippians 1:23
"For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better"

I don’t think any Christian denomination teaches that wanting your own death is a sin that deserves hell… in fact, many Christians believe that even suicide is not something that lands you in hell.

no i don’t think he will go to hell, he just wants to end his suffering, but maybe God has other plans right now
Prof Fruitcake on May 7, 2010 at 3:02 am
It is not a sin to wish for death. Wishes per se are not sinful. Wishes, by themselves, do not cause anything to happen or not happen.
Praying for God to take him is not sinful either. Praying is an expression of our wishes. God, not the prayer, is what decides the outcome.

hes just being his religious self. he obviously believes that heaven would be better than the pain he is in now. dont send him away to a psych ward, theres nothing wrong with believing in something.
no, personally i dont think wanting to be with God is going to send him to hell
im catholic if it matters to you.

No, he is asking God to have mercy and end his suffering..There is no sin in that..

I can understand his request entirely.
You don’t have to worry about hell.

He’s not wrong. If he wants God to take him, then that’s ok. He doesn’t wish to be dead, he wishes to be with God, and that’s fine too. Wanting to be closer to God is nothing to be damned for.

What could possibly be wrong with a man in terrible pain, wanting to die. Especially if there is no chance that he will live. I personally believe that when we die we leave our body behind, but the essence of who we really are, continues on. We never leave our family behind, because we are always with them, if not in the human body.
I am so very glad that I do not believe in someone going to hell, for any reason. What a very sad belief to have, especially when your loved one is ready to go. What this person needs at this very moment, is love, love of friends and love of family. Positive people around him to assist him in his pain. Love is giving of oneself to others and certainly in times like this, one should have compassion and love in their hearts, to assist the person who is in so much pain. Ask yourself, what would Jesus do and say under the circumstances. Of course, there is only one answer to that. He would take that man in his arms and love him.

He is suffering a lot and is in pain and it’s not to blame for his words, because in a way he is asking God to help him, because as you said he believes in God. I wish him all the best

…Stab him while he is asleep or not paying attention..

Jesus sets a good example :D http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=47&chapter=26&verse=39&version=31&context=verse
Pay special attention to this parable!: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2021%20:%2028-%2032;&version=31;
Which is better:
to say: "I wanna die!" and mean it. But still tough it out,
or
to say: "Bless you lord, for this opportunity to serve" and jump off a building?

Pain’s a funny thing it can make a man turn on God , not that he meens to , And God knows it , and forgives him in his time of suffering , no one is in right mind when no relief can be found , hell is the best way to describe the feeling . and god knows it , so I’m guessing he’ll have the gates open

It is not wrong for a man to cry out to his GOD to end his physical suffrings…this family member has faith in his heart that he is going to be with his GOD, he want’s the pain to end.
I have been in intense pain the last two years and have asked GOD If he would just send for me now, so far he has not done so, but, I can ask him.
It is not wrong that he is weary of his "flesh", he is weary and want’s to go home, that’s all.
Why would he want to go to Hell? He is not asking GOD to send him to Hell he is asking GOD to "take" him, you know, "Beam me up LORD!". It is a release that we hope in when our days are finished, a realease from this flesh we dwell in.

That God is mercy, that God is compassion, that God knows our hearts and minds, He will listen to your family member. He will answer your family member, though it may not be the answer he desires. If your family member is a genuine believer in God, then this member knows to let God take care of his situation, and to fully accept whatever happens. I wish your family member wasn’t in so much pain..but I can certainly pray for him, k? Hell is for souls who refuse to accept, obey, and put God FIRST. Being "religious" doesn’t mean squat. Following Jesus, and taking up our cross daily is to love Him is the truth.
