My husband was diagnosed with copd and sleep apnea 2 years ago. Is there anyone that can relate to what we are going through? He has never smoked, he worked in a textile mill for 23 years. He was around asbestos. He has a lot of coughing "spells". They are really frightening at times…Just would like to hear from someone in our situation. Thanks…
following sypmtoms are: numbing & extreme burning on left side of face (exposed side while sleeping)sinuses were messed up badly, but have somewhat cleared. burning sensation has worsened, with whole inside of mouth being completely numb & extreme burning sensation. since a/c clutch burned up on rig on 3/14/06 symptoms has began to move to right side of chin, lips, & left eye. Also, now I am experiencing "electrical type of shocks at times from face, & from base of neck to temple. Very painful, have lost considerable amount of weight due to not being able to eat, affects my sleeping, I sometimes have to have a drug induced sleep such as benadryl. Drs, try to say it is "Bells Palsy" But, symptoms DONOT MATCH: My face has Never been paralyzed or had lose of muscle use. A/C Clutch has electrical windings, as well as asbestos clutch material, which was hot enough to Burn off into a toxic smoke which was inside of cab of my truck when i awoke. The smoke was a blackish color, with an odor.
My huband has been having some breathing issues. When he is asleep I frequently have to SHAKE him to wake him up (somewhat) so that he starts breathing normally again. Also, if I am asleep then he will wake up gasping for air! This scares the crap out of me!! Also, he has been somewhat lightheaded and dizzy. He feels worn down and tired a lot too. He says that he just doesnt feel "right!" He IS a smoker (I know.. I dont need preaching about telling him to quit!) and he works in heat and air so he’s been exposed to things like asbestos and fiberglass entering his lungs. He doesnt really have a problem getting a "good" breath though.. just feeling dizzy (like I said). And OF COURSE being a "man" he doesnt want to go to the doctor unless its ABSOLUTELY necessary (and I cant really FORCE him to go, ya know!?) Plus we dont have health insurance b/c we simply cant afford it! I was just wondering if anyone might have a CLUE as to what might be going on!
BTW I HAVE concidered "sleep apnea" but its starting to cause problems when he is awake now too so I dont think that is what it is anymore! Thanks for any help you can give!!
I’ve just moved into an older apt complex that has Asbestos in the ceiling. They say that it should be ok and they have not had any problems but in the fine print it says to notify them if the ceiling is ruptured as this may cause a risk of exposure.
The Asbestos itself is an issue that I could live with. I only plan on being in this place for a year and from what I understand of Asbestos, it is only a problem
a) over very long exposure
b) it has to be disturbed and actually in the air.
The thing I’m concerned about is, last year I was diagnosed with severe "sleep anea" and thus I have to wear a mask hooked up to a CPAP machine.
for those who don’t know (i didn’t know 8 months ago) it’s basically a machine that feeds air to you all night because apparently I have a tendency to "stop breathing" when I sleep. this air is of course brought in from around the machine and it has a small filter but still I am kindof concerned.
Should I be more or less concerned using a CPAP here?
