In one trip to the emergency room, Chris went from being a 38-year-old working mom with abdominal pain to a colon cancer patient. When emergency room tests showed that Chris had a bowel obstruction, Dr. Cugini performed emergency surgery that revealed she had stage II colon cancer. Chris turned to Dr. Laughinghouse for a more aggressive course of chemotherapy after also considering treatment options at a New York hospital. Five years later, Chris’ cancer is in remission…and she’s enjoying life as an active mom, pediatric dentist and avid tennis player. For more information: bit.ly

My aunt lives in Germany. My Mom and Grandma are going to go visit her in November, although it might be pushed up considering she is very ill. She is only 39 years old and has always been a free spirit.
I do not know how to act around someone who is potentially going to die in the near future. I am nervous and really need to know how one should act? Should I act like nothing is happening or make it known that I am aware of the cancer?
Please help!! I have never had to deal with this before.

My father had lung cancer and he lasted over ten years. My mom was just diagnosed with lung cancer in the right lung and they say its not curable.

Chrys, thanks for answering–I have been googling it for over an hour. All the websites say is what the different stages are, in terms of where the cancer has spread. None of them say "stage 1–here’s all the symptoms", "stage 2–all the symptoms" etc…I just found out my mom has ovarian cancer and I’m trying to figure out what stage based on her symptoms…

My mom and cousin have both had precancerous cells in the cervix.
They found out when they were about my age.
My question is, how would I know if I had the same thing?
