My very close friend is having problems with breathing, and he’s feeling some back and chest pain. He’s lived in a house with a smoker for a long time, and he believes that it could be lung cancer. He’s nearly broke, his family won’t do anything to help him, and he has no insurance. Now we’re wondering how much a chest x-ray would cost to check out if he has any sort of lung cancer. He lives in Wisconsin if that helps in anyway.

I’m fat (65 extra pounds), and for a long time I’ve used baby powder in the crevasses in my skin, you know, in the groin area, under my breasts, and also under that darn hanging stomach I have. If I don’t, those areas get red and inflamed, and they only take maybe two to three days to get like that, too.

Now I’m finding out that not only is talc baby powder thought to cause ovarian cancer when you use it all the time in the genital area, as I do, but also it can be contaminated with asbestos–OMG!!!!.

And not only that, but inhaling it into the lungs is its own bad thing…and my pulmonologist told me that the inhaling into lungs thing is even worse with cornstarch.

So what do I do???? It can’t cost a mint, either. I’m usually pretty broke. Does anyone have any expertise in this matter?

Thanks!

My last trip to the hospital I was told I had been exposed to asbestos a long time ago and my lungs are gone. Why didn’t anyone tell me before about the asbestos scarring in my lungs.Did the doctor that read the x-rays before just not pick up on it or didn’t he think it was important enough to mention to me. I now have been given a death sentence. I have no insurance and at this stage I can’t get any. I can’t afford all the medicine they want me to take. 1 prescription a doctor gave me was 9.00 for 3 weeks worth of medicine. Needless to say, it didn’t get filled. Someone told me they have been doing stem cell research on lung tissue. Does anyone have any info on this.

I’m helping my friend dig a huge hole under her porch in a small space where they kept logs in for many years. The house is pretty old. I’m guessing at least 50 years old and my friend and i spend 3 hours there when we work. We’re most likely going to work 2 days a week. Is there a chance that their might be asbestos in that space? How can we check, what can we do to get rid of it, and is it safe to live in that underground room we’re planning to build when we finish digging the hole?

the space is mostly a storage area under the porch. it’s an enclosed space. the top and sides are concrete with wood covered over them and it held logs for a really long time. the floor is just dirt and we’re planning to dig through that 15 feet and then we’re tunneling over about 20 feet and building a room.

How was asbestos used in insulation? Years ago as a kid I lived in an old home where the ceiling was falling down and the blown in cotton like insulation was falling into teh air so I raked it all out.. what are the chances that this was asbestos? My lungs were conjested for a long time and I coughed a lot but currently I have excellent lung function since I don’t smoke. I was 14 years old or so. Thank you.
My lungs are perfectly healthy at this point in time. I do not cough or develope mucus to be coughed up and I can inhale a great deal of air. All I need to know is what insulation that contains asbestos looks like. The insulation was cotton-ish paper like and created a fine dust. I’m almost tempted to go back there and see if I can get it tested (although someone else lives there now).
I understand that the blown in type insulation may be asbestos but if it isn’t then what else could it have been?
