From what I have heard, once you are exposed to asbestos dust, there is NO getting it out of your lungs. However, what are the best ways to TRY and get at least some of it out of your lungs, over a long period of time? Should one develop cancer, I know that intake of antioxidant-rich food can help rid the body of free radicals, to try and help out the situation, but just wondering about other ways to "cleanse" the lungs (if there is such a way).
Recently my father and I were ripping out insulation from our old 1920′s home, and we think there’s a darn good chance, the insulation was made from zonolite/vermiculite (dangerous dangerous stuff, as you may have heard about tonight, on CBC radio, if you live in Canada). Suggestions?
I work at a golf course. In the building where the golf carts are stored there is a yellow-looking insulation that is hanging along the walls and ceiling around the entire room. The building is old; I think it was built prior to the 1970s. Is this asbestos? I am not sure, but I would like to confirm if it is. Here is a picture I took today:

How was asbestos used in insulation? Years ago as a kid I lived in an old home where the ceiling was falling down and the blown in cotton like insulation was falling into teh air so I raked it all out.. what are the chances that this was asbestos? My lungs were conjested for a long time and I coughed a lot but currently I have excellent lung function since I don’t smoke. I was 14 years old or so. Thank you.
My lungs are perfectly healthy at this point in time. I do not cough or develope mucus to be coughed up and I can inhale a great deal of air. All I need to know is what insulation that contains asbestos looks like. The insulation was cotton-ish paper like and created a fine dust. I’m almost tempted to go back there and see if I can get it tested (although someone else lives there now).
I understand that the blown in type insulation may be asbestos but if it isn’t then what else could it have been?
I’ve been going through a series of testing recently due to swollen lymph nodes in my neck, though my doctors aren’t overly concerned. I had a CT scan done and am consulting with my ENT again tomorrow.
Something I recently was thinking about though is this… In my room at home there is a thin door that latches shut, it attaches to our attic. The house is over a hundred years old, and the insulation was installed ages ago. As I understand, asbestos was found in vermiculite mined from the original US mine, and was mixed with various types of insulation back in the day…
I can’t be sure that this insulation contains asbestos, but assuming it does… Could I have been exposed to it in small amounts over time? Could particles of it "leak" through this door? I definitely can smell the insulation during warmer days. I’ve been living in this room for nearly 20 years.
The insulation isn’t regularly disturbed, it hasn’t been in years. But I remember "playing" with it, without my parent’s knowledge of course, with my friends and brother when we were much younger… It seemed liked a good idea at the time… Is this something I should be concerned about? Something worth mentioning to my doctors, even without confirmation asbestos exists here?
I have a question about asbestos. I am a freshman in high school and all of are schools were built in the 1970′s. I went for freshman orientation on about August 25 and I went on the third floor and asbestos removal was in progress when people were in the building. I do not believe there was actual removal at the time but barriers and signs were posted. Do you think I could have been exposed? Also the school has been adding fiber optics I believe, throughout the building and have had to remove parts of the drop ceilings to do it. When this occurred a man removed the tile and then I though I heard him curse because a gray fluffy material with white specs of some sort fell on the floor. This substance was on many parts of the floor throughout the third level. Could it be Asbestos? Also we are doing archery class in the basement next to the boiler room and in this room there are vents and pipes that have a wrap around it and you can see a yellow insulation and on the vents portions are damaged and more yellow insulation is exposed. Could this be asbestos or fiberglass since its a yellowish color? I am worried about what this could be. Should I report my school? If you think I should what agencies should i contact?
I am trying to find out if it is worth having the asbestos removed from the basement of my office. It is only used for stoprage none of the insulation ever gets disturbed does anyone know about what it would cost to have done?I have about 300 feet of pipe that is wraper in asbestos.
